A local radio station did a mimic (mimmic? mimmick? whatever) of Oprah’s Big Give. But instead of thousands of dollars (or whatever it was), they gave four people $25.00 to see what good they could do with it. Well, one of the people had a ‘family emergency’ (IMO, she probably wanted more than $25.00 and decided it wasn’t worth it) and another person just didn’t show up. So they ended up giving $50.00 to the final two people. (Both women)
I started trying to think about what I would do with $50.00 to donate. I decided I may ‘buy a brick’ at the local animal shelter to support it’s fundraising efforts toward a new shelter, or buy canned food to donate to the local food bank, or maybe I would convince my friends to donate women’s workwear to a “Women to Work” program.
The two women who actually did the show thought MUCH broader than that. One of them used the $50.00 to open an account at a local bank and then encouraged people to donate money. (I don’t remember what her cause was) She ended up raising over $600.00. Not bad.
The second woman ended up getting a restaurant to donate all of it’s sales that day (or something like that) to the Susan G. Komen fund. (It ended up being about 4k) She then got people to donate stuff for the fund to auction off. The total value of ’stuff’? $30,000. So she raised $34,000. I’m not sure where the $50.00 came into play on hers, but I’m sure it was the starting donation or something.
I was pretty impressed with their ideas, although I thought mine were good too.
So now I’m curious, what would you do if you were given $25.00 to donate or do good with?
Etsy Me, Etsy Do.
I’m big on supporting people who make stuff themselves. For example, Southern Essence, who makes her own soaps. I’ve recently found Etsy and am pretty sure that was a bad sign for Mr. C. A lot of people on there crochet and knit and paint and whatever else you can think of. I recently made my first purchase of a dog sweater for Jolee. The seller even made me one specifically how I asked, (longer than the one she had listed) and gave me a choice of colors.
Here is what it looks like:

hee hee. I don’t usually go crazy with the dressing-my-dog up, but now that we’re going for walks she needs a coat. And come on, it’s CUTE!
In case you were wondering, we have a peke-poo. (She had a cream colored pekingnese mom and a black poodle dad) Here she was as a puppy in a coat that she outgrew as soon as we paid too much for it:

Doesn’t she look like an Ewok?
Here’s another picture:

She was one cute stinkin puppy. Now she eats chicken shit and forgets that she’s housetrained. Where did we go wrong?!
I totally did not mean for this post to be a ‘Look at my cute dog’ post. So back to the original point: What would you do if you had to do something good with $25.00?!
